Our project was to create a mixed media piece that emphasized a random place we came across during a walkabout. The place I ended up was near where I live in an Asian neighborhood, across from a Chinese noodle factory. I wanted to include a sense of this culture within my piece so I incorporated Chinese calligraphy within the sky and koi fish to represent the puddle beside the train tracks. I wanted to portray the vibrancy of the area within the colors I used and the placement of each segment so that the composition as a whole would feel lively and comfortable. The other two pieces are both snippets of the area using different media. One is a painting that focuses on atmospheric perspective and color cues, while the other is a cut-paper composition that focuses on creating dynamic shapes within a space.
